The skeptic's confusion:

He was the sixth from Adam.

“And Adam ... begat ... Seth....
And Seth ... begat Enos....
And Enos ... begat Cainan....
And Cainan .... begat Mahalaleel....
And Mahalaleel ... begat Jared....
And Jared .... begat Enoch.” Genesis 5:3-18

“Adam,
Sheth,
Enosh,
Kenan,
Mahalaleel,
Jered,
Henoch....” 1 Chronicles 1:1-2

“Enoch, which was the son of Jared,
which was the son of Maleleel,
which was the son of Cainan,
Which was the son of Enos,
which was the son of Seth,
which was the son of Adam...” Luke 3:37-38

He was the seventh from Adam.

“And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam....” Jude 14

Solution:

Jude simply included Adam in his count, as in: Enoch was the seventh man from Creation. If he had said that Enoch was the seventh after Adam, then there would be a problem-- but he didn’t.

"And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days... Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD." Genesis 49: 1, 16-18
