The Skeptic's confusion:

700.

"And David took from him a thousand chariots and seven hundred horsemen."  2 Samuel 8:4

7000.

"And David took from him a thousand chariots and seven thousand horsemen."  1 Chronicles 18:4

The Bible Answer by Castulo Martinez:

It should be evident that the text of 2 Samuel 8:4 has an error in the number of horsemen. This is one of the several mistakes crept into the text of the English translation. The correct number is, obviously, given in 1 Chronicles 18:4, because it is corroborated by the Bagster’s Septuagint both in page 410, v. 3 and in page 553, v. 3. Furthermore, the New International Version also states both in 2 Samuel 8:4 and 1 Chronicles that the horsemen captured by David were 7000.

Most of the alleged contradictions fall into the category of errors or interpolations in the translation or transcription of the Word of God. But they are so minor in importance that the general message of the Bible is not altered. It is true that the mocker gloats about these apparent contradictions, just because he does not believe there is a God. But the Bible has its answer to him in Psalms 53:1.

"And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days... Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD." Genesis 49: 1, 16-18
